A 4 -year old let the landlord into an apartment on yesterday afternoon after the tenant's father reported he hadn't heard from his son for a few days. The landlord found that the boy had been staying by the side of his dead father's body.
According to the Des Moines Register website, the landlord of the apartment complex in Ankeny, Jason Smith, met the boy at the door around 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon to check on the tenant.
The young boy at first did not want to let him into the apartment, stating his dad was asleep and nobody should wake him.Upon entering the apartment, the landlord discovered that the little boy's father was not in fact sleeping, but he was dead.
Smith got the boy out of the apartment and got him some food because he had not eaten, but he did not seem to comprehend what was going on at all. He still insisted that his father was asleep and nobody was to wake him up.
No crime is suspected as of yet, and the young boy has been taken to stay with other relatives. All that is being said thus far is that the boy is physically okay.
The identity of the man and boy have not been released as of yet, and no information on the cause of death has been released either. No foul play is suspected, according to authorities. The landlord did state that the man was a very good tenant and very helpful.
