Dick Tracy, Eat Your Heart Out

A little while back, a friend of mine was commenting on how smart-phones, tablets, and other such devices were curiously all designed to be held or to fit into pockets, lamenting the fact that  Dick Tracy's famous wristwatch communicator had never been developed. But today, it has been revealed that Sony has put out a SmartWatch, which goes far beyond transmitting radio voices to which the comic detective's is limited.

In companion with your Android(tm) smartphone, the SmartWatch is able to share many of the apps on your phone, from your media player, to your Twitter and Facebook accounts, to answering phone calls and replying to text messages. It's like a more socially-minded version of Motorola's MOTOACTV, a device mainly used by joggers and health-focused individuals.

However, according to InformationWeek's review, without a smartphone in your pocket, this device is simply a flashy watch. The reason for this, the article continues, is to keep the price down (currently going for $149.99) as it's main function is as an accessory. This, I feel, is a small price to pay to look like an international superspy while shopping for groceries.
