With Afroman having performed at the Blue Moose last night, and Kenan Thompson live in the IMU tonight, there's a lot of local stuff happening in Iowa City. Events ranging from concerts, movie screenings, and festivals happen all the time here.
First, as previously mentioned Kenan Thompson is doing comedy at the IMU tonight at 10:00pm. If it's been a while and you don't remember, he was the star of Nickelodeon's Kenan and Kel. He's a pretty funny and all-around cool guy, so you wouldn't want to go missing out on his show, which is presented by the University's Campus Activities Board. It starts pretty late at night, to encourage you to attend the routine rather than going out downtown all night.
Then on August 27th at 12:00am (we're not sure if that's Friday night or Saturday night) at the Englert Theatre CAB is showing the Japanese animation film Metropolis. It's a unique anime show with many deep, interlaced characters.
Hawkapalooza 2011 is then from 7pm to 10pm at Hubbard Park on September 1st. With previous acts such as Lupe Fiasco and speakers from university athletic officials, the event tends to draw crowds in the thousands. Free to the general public, Hawks Nest and SCOPE present Mike Posner. He's got several hits out that you might recognize - Cooler Than Me, Bow Chicka Wow Wow, and Please Don't Go are some of them.
